On Wednesday July 7th, the Carman Fire
Department started the day early; at 8:19 the Carman was dispatched to 235
McClellan St in the City of Schenectady to assist on a working house fire. Due
to Rescue 134 being out of service, Utility 136 responded to the call. SFD was
working a house fire with a possible fatality, the crew of 136 set up a rehab
area. Temperatures on Wednesday hit the high 90’s in the capital region, and
chances of firefighter heat exhaustion were high. Carman cleared the scene
within 3 hours.
At 13:10 Carman was dispatched for mutual aid to a car on fire at the Stewarts
on Altamont Ave in District 2 first due area. Engine 133 responded minuets
after the call, upon arrival the fire was extinguished by District 2 however
the crew from Engine 133 assisted in overhaul.
At 15:20 Carman was dispatched for mutual aid to Albany County to the
Guilderland Service Plaza on the NYS Thruway for a Fire Alarm. Truck 132
responded soon there after, once the source of the fire alarm was determined to
be false, units cleared within 30 minuets.
While Truck 132 was returning to the station from the mutual aid call, Carman
was dispatched for a EMS assist at 928 Kings Rd for a person with their hand
stuck. Truck 132 responded and arrived to find EMS on scene with a victim’s
hand stuck in a bike chain. The crew
from the Truck utilized bolt cutters to free the victim’s hand and returned to
service within minuets of arriving on scene.
To end the day out, at 19:57 Carman was dispatched to the intersection of Peter
Rd and Angelina Rd for transformer leaking oil, Engine 135 responded to the
call. Crews arrived to find a transformer leaking oil, and notified National
Grid to the scene to make the necessary repairs. Power was down in the area for
few hours while National Grid crews worked on repairing the leak.
